A voice of distinction, Marianna Previti's sound defies category. Previti left her mark when she was voted best traditional jazz vocalist three years running in 1999, 2001 and 2002 by the Washington Area Music Association. She has also earned Wammies on recordings with the J Street Jumpers and John Previti. Trained as a classical trumpet player, Marianna's singing has garnered respect of DC's finest musicians. Her sense of phrasing, sound quality and interpretation of song puts her among the finest singers around. Her genres are varied though many have compared her to the great vocalists of a bygone era such as Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Helene Hume and Lil Green, Still she often can be heard singing blues with the band The Smokin' Pole Cats, performing her original songs or crooning a country song. Have a listen and you'll know why she is often introduced as 'the gal with a golden voice'. She teaches music in Montgomery County Public Schools and is mother to fifteen year old artist Rosetta.
